A new suburb in Preston East - Northland Urban Renewal Precinct Ongoing and Future projects

This page provides an overview of the relevant current and future projects that are happening as part of the urban renewal precinct in Preston East.

Each of these projects include a short description. For more information, contact the Strategic Planning team at planningservices@darebin.vic.gov.au

Key phases of the program will be announced approximately every 6 months via the newsfeed below and on the main project page. However, you can get in touch with us any time!

Creative Industries Investigation
Council is investigating the potential for establishing a creative industries hub and recommending an implementation approach and governance/management structures. The aim is to introduce different uses into the urban renewal precinct, activate the precinct and provide spaces for creative uses that are coming under increasing pressure in Darebin. Watch this space!

Infrastructure and Implementation Plan
A series of projects will be undertaken over the next 1.5 years to investigate new and efficient ways of delivering best practice sustainable infrastructure at a precinct scale (i.e. drainage, sewerage, energy and internet). The aim is to inform a Development Contribution Plan Schedule or similar that is specific to the needs of the Preston East Renewal Precinct, taking into account existing and future uses.

Structure and Implementation Plan
This Plan will guide the overall transformation of the urban renewal precinct and ensure the implementation of the Vision over time (30+ years), tying together ongoing projects that will be informed by numerous phases of engagement.

Design Code
A Design Code will ensure best practice urban design and architecture, for private and public buildings and spaces. It will be informed by previous projects and specify the general direction of the future urban renewal precinct Structure and Implementation Plan for Preston East.

Planning Scheme Amendments
Before commencing the formal process, the Structure and Implementation Plan and other background projects will need to be completed. For the first stage, the introduction of the Structure and Implementation Plan, associated re-zonings and Design Code are likely to occur, but this may change.
