Streets for People Croxton West Place-Making Project

As our city continues to grow, the role and function of our local streets is changing. Darebin City Council is committed to working with our community to help define what our streets will look and feel like in the future.

In 2018, the Darebin City Council launched Streets for People, an exciting project to transform local street networks in Darebin into more people-friendly places.

Since then, we have undertaken Streets for People projects across Darebin and are now seeking community input for our next study location, the Croxton west Place-making Project.

Project Background

The Croxton West precinct includes the streets between Normanby Avenue and Arthurton Road, and Merri Creek and St Georges Road. It also includes the Northcote Green Link and the Great Western Shimmy Streets for People corridors.

The corridor is affected by its proximity to major roads. It accommodates high levels of local walking and cycling activity by people of all ages and abilities moving between homes, train stations and tram stops, creek trails and schools.

The Northcote Green Link route is also being considered for designation as a primary transport cycling route as part of the State Government's Strategic Cycling network. These various transport considerations must be balanced with the need to provide safe and attractive streets for the local community to not only use, but also enjoy and be proud of.

Our vision for the Streets for People project is:

to create a neighbourhood that is safe, green, clean and welcoming

You can help us meet this vision

We have received your feedback for the first stage of the project which was identifying issues and opportunities to inform the draft concept designs. We will be collating this information and in early 2020 you will have another opportunity to let us know what you think.

If you have any questions about this project, you can Ask us a question.

Thank you for your time and interest in the Croxton West Place-making Project.

Next steps

Following this first round of consultation, we will use your feedback to develop some concept plans for the precinct. You will then be invited to provide comments and feedback.
