Be part of an exciting opportunity to decide what Darebin should look like in 2041!

We’re starting the new year by looking to the future. In the coming months, we will be working with local people to create a 20-year community vision to design the Darebin we all want to see in 2041.

The vision will be designed and developed by the people of Darebin. That’s why we’re on the lookout for volunteers to be part of a group of 40 residents to work together over the next couple of months to create a vision of the future and help figure out how we will get there.

You will get the chance to ask questions, hear from experts and work with other residents through an in-depth process over the next few months. Opportunities like this don’t come around very often and you will be paid for your time.

Can I apply?

Darebin City Council is inviting all community members, aged 18 or above, to register their interest in being part of the Design your Darebin 2041 Deliberative Panel.

Council is committed to supporting all members of the community to participate. If you are selected for the panel and require support ( i.e. translators, technical support etc.) we will work with you to ensure you are able to participate.

Who will be on the panel?

The panel will involve 40 randomly selected members of the community who represent the diversity of Darebin.

What will it involve?

The panel will meet in person and online, from late February through to May. In the first three meetings the panel will focus on developing a Vision for Darebin building on input from the community about their aspirations for the future:

Meeting 1: Sunday 28 February, 10 am to 4 pm, venue to be advised.

Meeting 2: Thursday 4 March, 6:30 pm to 8:30pm, online via Zoom.

Meeting 3: Thursday 11 March, 6:30 pm to 8:30pm, online via Zoom.

The final two meetings the panel will focus on how to implement the Community Vision through the Council Plan:

Meeting 4: Sunday 2 May, 10 am to 4 pm, venue to be advised.

Meeting 5: Sunday 23 May, 10 am to 4 pm, venue to be advised.

In all, there will be three full-day sessions in person, supported by a number of online sessions and activities. Catering will be provided for each full-day session. We will also be closely monitoring the COVID situation and will be ready to move online if needed.

How much will I get paid?

Participants will need to commit to attending all the sessions and review materials and complete activities online between sessions. We appreciate this is a significant commitment and panel members will receive a $300 voucher in recognition of their time and contribution.

Who will be recruiting the panel?

To ensure the process is robust and fair, we have partnered with specialists Deliberately Engaging to manage the process. They have years of experience recruiting panels of this type and will ensure that the panel selection is independent from Council and is representative of our diverse community.
