When will the works happen?

Stage 1 works along Flinders Street are scheduled for 2019/20. These works include the section between Walsh Street and Matisi Street.

Stage 2 works between Station Street and Walsh Street are scheduled for 2020/21.

How long will the works take?

Stage 1 works (Walsh to Matisi) will be the longest, around 12-16 weeks. This section requires extensive works to rebuild to a new condition.

Stage 2 works (Station to Walsh) will take around 8 weeks.

How will I be informed about the timing of works?

Regular updates will be provided detailing the status and progress of the works via this page and also in writing to the local community.

What is water sensitive urban design (wsud)?

Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) is an approach to planning and designing urban areas to make use of stormwater and reduce the harm it causes to our rivers and creeks.

Stormwater is rainwater that has fallen onto roads or roofs and often contains chemicals or pollutants.

As part of this project we are planning to harness 100% of the stormwater that falls onto the road and direct it to new rain gardens that will treat the water before entering the drainage network and then the nearby Darebin Creek.

How is access to my property affected during the works?

As a result of the works, vehicular access to your property may at times be denied during the day of the works.

A written notice of not less than 24 hours will be placed in your letterbox by the contractor if your driveway access is directly affected by the works.

During the works, Flinders Street will be closed to all through traffic for public safety. Local resident access will generally be available throughout the works.
