Festivals in Darebin: The way forward

We have developed a new model for the delivery of festivals and events in Darebin and we want to share this with you now to get your thoughts.

The proposed new model comes in response to the following action in the 2017 - 2018 Annual Action Plan:

Review Council’s festivals and events...and get endorsement for a Future of Festivals in Darebin plan.

The proposed new model

Two seasonal festivals per year are designed as key markers in the annual calendar.

Each season will feature different art-forms:

An Autumn Festival will feature visual arts, design, multi-media, film, fashion and public art.

A Spring Festival will feature music, performance, live art and literature.

A guest curator will guide an over-arching vision for each season and for the festival year as a whole.

This is an umbrella model that enables diffuse and disparate activities to come under one banner with centralised marketing, logistical support and artistic oversight.

Council will perform a producing and enabling function and programming will be driven by the creative sector.

Ongoing research, development and presentation cycles will provide numerous artists and community members with the opportunity to become involved over time.

This model is intended to embrace, enable and nurture creativity, across the length and breadth of the municipality.
