Will this Strategy affect any of my services?

No. Your services and collections will remain the same. We will consult with the community on possible changes to waste services later in 2020 and 2021.

What consultation has happened before this?

This Draft Strategy and the preceding review were informed by consultation with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including Climate Emergency Darebin and Darebin Environmental Reference Group. Darebin’s Annual Community Survey also provided insight into a range of community views on council’s waste and recycling services and management.

Pending endorsement of the Draft Strategy by Council, further consultation with internal and external stakeholders will take place, giving the community further opportunity to have a say about changes to waste and recycling services.

Why is the Strategy being reset?

Council has had to rethink and adjust its approach to waste and recycling due to significant changes in the recycling industry and our declaration of a Climate Emergency. The Draft Strategy moves Council’s focus to cutting emissions from waste, advocacy to State and Federal government and challenging traditional approaches to waste and recycling.

    What happens to my feedback?

All feedback will be reviewed and used to inform the final Strategy and further engagement on service provision later in 2020 and 2021. The final Strategy will be provided for Council consideration and endorsement in March 2020. Results of the engagement will also be available to view on Darebin’s Your Say pages.
