Reservoir Structure Plan

Your city’s 20-year plan for the growth, development and revitalisation of Reservoir

Reservoir is a designated Major Activities Area for Melbourne - and a priority in our own local plans for a healthy, growing and sustainable city.

Our community faces many of the same pressures that are playing out across Darebin, Melbourne and beyond. With steadily growing population, and a shift in the mix and nature of households, we need to adapt to changing housing needs and intensifying service demands.

But beyond just putting a roof over heads and providing essential services…

Our mission is to make sure that Reservoir becomes an even more vital, liveable and desirable place to live, work and prosper.

That means not only holding on to the community spirit and village character that you love - but also stepping up…

  • To make a tired and divided centre more connected, diverse and attractive.
  • To upgrade services, facilities, amenities, transportation, public spaces, streetscapes, buildings and the environment.
  • To support and encourage business, investment and contribution.
  • To bring more people together, more happily and productively.
  • To do it all more sustainably.

The Reservoir Structure Plan was adopted by Council in August 2012 and sets out your vision and ours for the future of Reservoir - and the course we will take over the next 20 years to achieve it. You can view the Structure Plan here.

How is the Reservoir Structure Plan being used?

The Reservoir Structure Plan was implemented into the Darebin Planning Scheme for the first time through Amendment C138.

A future planning scheme amendment is planned to implement more specific directions of the Structure Plan, including rezoning of some land and the application of built form controls to guide and manage future development in the centre. This work is currently on hold pending the State Governments finalisation of plans for the removal of the level crossing in Reservoir.
