Reimagining Ruthven

We are going create a 3 hectare park for the Reservoir community

Last year we kick-started the master planning process for your new park by hosting a family fun day. Over 350 people attended this event, shared lovely stories and pitched great ideas to help us understand what you would like to see happen in your new park.

Many of you raised concerns around the designation of a Children’s Hub at the former Ruthven Primary School site in the Council Plan - Darebin 2021. These concerns were reinforced the Community Reference Group (CRG), created to help guide the master plan project.

At the 7 November 2018 meeting, Council supported the community’s vision by resolving to develop the entire Ruthven site as a park only with no Children’s Hub or large buildings on site.

What will happen next?

Officers will work closely with the CRG to finalise the master plan to create the park. We will use the great ideas collected from the community last year as a starting point and are hoping to share a draft master plan with the community in October 2019.

Background

Last year we purchased the former Ruthven Primary School site as it fills an important gap in providing local access to open space.

With the assistance of a Community Reference Group (CRG), we will create a master plan guiding the development of a park this financial year.

Community Consultation

We held a family fun day in October 2017 to celebrate the acquisition of the new park and kick start the master planning for the Ruthven site.

You can check out the consultation findings in the Document Library located to the right.
